Portraits, performances and writtings on Peruvian working class women.
Peru is a big and complex country, with a rich history of paradoxes and with an extraordinary cultural diversity.
The economic and social transformations have motivated, in the last years, important migration movements, populating, almost abruptly the city of Lima.
This migrations, have suddenly confronted the different Peruvian cultures between them, in a city that overflows of chaos, energy and struggle for survive.
In between of this accelerated social changes, there are many hard working women, who’s work and lives are not recognized; or in case to be actually known, like a singer or a dancer, this phenomena rest always closed or contained in a cliché of a social and cultural belonging that they can not escape.
Tu cuerpo / el mío proposes the creation of four performances inspired in the lives of four Peruvian working class women or folk artists leaving in Lima; most of the performances will count also with their presence in life. These dance/theatre performances will be composed by writings, photography and short movement sequences; a little poetry of intimacy, charged by delicate subjects like racism, social differences, and struggle of life.
Tu cuerpo / el mío, is a poetical action, a collective work, an open manifest of a social problematic, and at the same time, a concrete initiative for social integration and a job opportunity to a group of artists and of workers.
Performing spaces and creation process
I love to think at Tu cuerpo / el mío, like a sequence of four performances to be installed at alternatives spaces, to be able to present it in neighbourhoods where theatres do not exist; so I will propose people to receive the performances in their houses. I imagine the public (small groups of 25 people) going from one installation to the other, like through these women’s stories and lives.
As usual, I will collaborate with artists in different disciplines: Marisol Otero, choreographer and Susana Torres, visual artist.
We will work in four neighborhoods: Puerto Nuevo (Callao), Los Olivos, San Martin de Porres and Villa El Salvador.
We have done a series of workshops in the month of october in the four neigborhoods, adressed to women that wanted to participate in the project. We worked with 110 women in 8 days, from which we have chosen 20 to participate in the performances.

- Karin Elmore Artista y gestora cultural peruana. Ha vivido en Roma, México, Nueva York, actualmente reside en Sète, Francia. Sus trabajos han sido presentados en distintas partes del mundo en teatros y museos como Pallazo delle Exposizoni en Roma, Museo Reina Sofía en Madrid, Festival Lins Ars Electrónica, Teatro Colosseo Roma, Centro Nacional de las Artes, México, etc. Ha sido directora del Centro de Artes Escénicas de la Municipalidad de Lima y del Festival Internacional de Danza y Teatro de LIma. Ha colaborado con artistas de diferentes disciplinas como Enzo Cosimi, Gustavo Frigerio, Alvin Curran, Mario Bellatin, Rocío Rodrigo, Amalia Fernández, Paloma Calle, Gilbert Rouvière, Susana Torres, entre otros.
